A domestically produced variant of the Phantom tailored for the British Army, modifications include the usage of composite armor, new jet engines and redesigned jump units.

Initial F-4K pre-production types were not very satisfactory, and the Army demands a complete retool of the F-4 production lines to suits with domestic production, which resulted in the improved F-4M. The Phantom type M first saw action during the defense of Malaya against BETA incursion, combat experiences in oversea colonies eventually resulted in the development of the Hi-Low Mix in British TSF designs, which spawned the English Electric Lightning F.6, a lightly armored TSF designed for hit-and-run tactics and serves alongside the Phantom in combat.

The British Phantom is a jack-of-all-trade unit, it is capable of taking on multi-role missions but specialized in none. Further enhancements on the F-4M frame based on combat experiences eventually resulted in the development of the 1.5 Gen F-4FVS , a Phantom variant with variable wing technology with sleeker appearance and weight reduction materials for onboard carrier-use for the Royal Navy
